Small-w whitewater

Definition

The least you need to know

Small-w whitewater is the term used in the Predictable Success model for the growing pains a small, fast-growing organization feels when the impact of growth starts to overwhelm it, most often during the Fun stage. While experiencing these growing pains can be exhausting, and at times bewildering, unlike the (capital-W) Whitewater stage they rarely carry an existential threat: There may be painful pinch points, but the entire organization isn't going to collapse as a result. Unlike the Whitewater stage - which requires enterprise-wide installation of systems and processes - addressing growing pains in Fun requires discrete, pain-point-specific systems and/or processes deliberately kept as simple as possible to fix the underlying issue.
