Whitewater

Definition

The least you need to know

Whitewater is the third stage of the Predictable Success Lifecycle, and the last of the three growth stages before the peak stage, Predictable Success.

Organizations slide into Whitewater as a direct consequence of the success they achieved in Fun: success brings growth, growth brings complexity, and eventually that complexity overwhelms the organization's ability to execute effectively.

There are two ways to emerge from Whitewater: either establish enterprise-wide systems and processes, adopt them and push forward into Predictable Success, or make a conscious choice to go back to Fun (allowing for minimal systems and processes), and accept a cap on growth.
