Shared Vocabulary
Definition
The least you need to know
Shared vocabulary is the innate, common understanding of what specific words or phrases mean, held by everyone on a team clearly and without exception. The words themselves change from team to team, whether "leadership," "customer service," or "optimum inventory level." High-performing teams share this understanding; low-performing teams wrestle with conflicting opinions and ambiguous readings of even basic concepts. The Lifecycle stage names and the VOPS Styles give a team exactly this kind of common language.
