The Big Rut

Definition

The least you need to know

The Big Rut is the sixth stage of the Predictable Success Lifecycle, the second decline stage, sitting between Treadmill and Death Rattle. An organization falls into it by staying in Treadmill too long, until it loses the one thing that made Treadmill recoverable: the ability to self-diagnose. Nobody inside can see anything wrong. Process and administration matter more than results, risk-taking is actively discouraged, and a strong balance sheet can keep a company sitting here for decades.
